Outlook does not recognize one or more names

With the error message Outlook does not recognize one or more names, no e-mails are generated for certain e-mail addresses. The affected e-mail addresses are listed individually in the log e-mail to simplify troubleshooting.

This problem is caused by corrupted Outlook contact data.

Individual addresses affected

  • If only a few individual addresses are affected, you can solve the problem as follows:
  • If individual mails are not sent, it may help to delete the Auto-Complete entry for the relevant e-mail address.
  • In a new e-mail, enter the beginning of the e-mail address in question in the To field and click the X behind the e-mail address in the drop-down list to delete this Auto-Complete entry.

If deleting the Auto-Complete entry does not work, then the contact can also be deleted as an alternative. If deleting the contact is not an option, then continue with the steps listed in Many addresses affected.

A damaged Outlook profile can also cause this error. To get rid of the error, create a new Outlook profile.

To create a new Outlook profile, follow these steps:

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. Then, under File, click the Account Settings button and then click Manage Profiles.

  1. The Mail Setup dialog opens.
  1. Click on Show profiles. The E-mail dialog opens.
  1. In this dialog, select the Prompt for a profile to be used option and then click the Add button.
  2. Enter a meaningful name for the new Outlook profile, e.g. Serienmail.
  3. Enter the required information in the following dialog:
  1. Click on Next. Outlook will now connect to the server. After the connection has been established, the following message appears: The operation completed successfully.
  2. Click Finish.
  3. Then restart Outlook.
  4. When you restart, you will now be asked which profile you want to use to start Outlook.
  1. Select the Serienmail profile here. Depending on the size of your mailbox, it may take a while for all the e-mails to load.

Now the e-mails for which the error message Outlook does not recognize at least one name was issued and that were not sent can also be generated.
